Divine Canines is a really fun and unique way to get involved in the Austin community.
We visit various “special care” places in and around Austin, including the Austin State Hospital, the elderly, and Alzheimers patients. We add places as we acquire new volunteers to serve them. Our target service audience includes children and youth. If you have a special request, please let us know!
Handlers of therapy dogs must commit to approximately 2 hours per visit, 2 times per month. Because the people we serve will develop a bond with the therapy dog, it is very important that handlers be able to make visits on a regular basis.
Handlers must also commit to proper vaccinations and grooming for their canine and attend monthly volunteer meetings.
Other forms of participation are encouraged, such as attending or assisting with fundraisers and special events.
There are other ways to volunteer even if you’re canine-free. We need assistance with special events, graphics, fundraising efforts, and drafting and distributing a regular newsletters.
