Texas Book Festival
Divine Canines will have teams at the 2010 Texas Book Festival, October 16-17 at the State Capitol building. The festival is
a great opportunity to get exposure for the work we do in childhood literacy at places like:
- Title 1 elementary schools in Austin, where children read one-on-one to our divine canines once a week,
- Area libraries (Westbank Library, Laura's Library, Dripping Springs Library, Marble Falls Library), where we
read with groups of children or one-on-one, and
- Schools that hold special events that promote reading like Zavala and their annual Reading Rally Day and the Reading is
Fundamental program that provides children in low-income areas with free books.
Last year, over 40,000 people attended the festival which was created in 1995 by Laura Bush to benefit the state's public
library system, to promote the joy of reading, as well as to honor Texas authors. The festival includes lectures, book
signings, crafts, children's books, and exhibitors - which is where we come in! We will be at a booth in the outdoor
exhibitor tent both Saturday and Sunday.
