QUARTERLY MEETINGS

We have planned quarterly meetings with all volunteers and Lee to exchange information and ideas, training tips, host guest speakers and, most importantly, keep up with our awesome volunteers and make sure you and your dogs are having a rewarding experience.

The next volunteer meeting will be held Saturday, February 16th in the Specialty Services area at the Austin State Hospital following the graduation at 2:00 PM.

TRAINING -- NEW 2008 Dates :

Therapy training takes commitment!

Therapy dog training is conducted in two parts:
An introduction to therapy dog training and evaluation of dog/handler, plus four classes in a therapy or hospital setting. (includes graduation)

A CGC (Canine Good Citizen) certificate is a prerequisite to therapy dog training.  There is no charge for therapy dog training.  Our class schedule for Summer 2008 is planned for the following:

Class #1

Orientation/Evaluation: August 9, 8:00am-11:00am at Cold Creek

Patient Prep: August 16, 11:00am-1:00pm at ASH

Patient Prep: August 23, 11:00am-1:00pm at ASH

Patient Prep: September 6 11:00am-1:00pm at ASH

Testing/Graduation/Unit Visit: September 13, 11:00am-1:00pm at ASH

Note: You must complete the prerequisite of a CGC certificate and contact the Divine Canines trainer to enroll in one of these classes.
