Success is measured by the quality of life experience.

Introducing.... the Divine Canines:

Mattie was picked up on Hwy 290 by a Town Lake Animal Shelter dogcatcher. She apparently had been catching frogs, and her coat was matted so badly with mud and brambles, the shelter employees had to shave it off. Hence her name, "Mattie." Because of excellent surgical care and kind treatment given to Mattie by Town Lake Animal Shelter and Ponderosa Pomeranian Rescue, the dirty, frightened little animal turned into a happy therapy dog. And now that her hair has grown back, Mattie looks as pretty as a princess. But she still tries to eat frogs, so we call her Mattie, the Frog Princess.

Minx is a 3 year old Rottweiler who loves to play soccer and do parlor tricks for treats. She loves to visit with people of all ages but especially enjoys playing with kids and receiving a good belly rub.

Rosie, one of the original Divine Canines, is a 4 year old Chocolate Labrodor Retriever. She enjoys agility training in her free time and uses her agility skills in many of her entertaining tricks for clients. Rosie’s eyes say it all,...they are filled with love and compassion for all.

Chi is a 3 year old sheltie who was rescued from the Houston Sheltie Sanctuary. He has a strong herding instinct and loves to herd anything that moves. His favorite tricks are Roll Over and Shake, though he'll do just about anything for food.

Lucy is a 5 year old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel mix; she was found at a bus stop in south east Austin in 2004. While Lucy is small she has a big personality, full of playfulness, curiosity and a huge love of people. In September 2006 Lucy graduated from the Divine Canines Pet Therapy program. Lucy and her guardian and Divine Canine's handler Langa visit with residents at The Summit retirement home and soon will begin volunteering with other Divine Canine Pet Therapy Teams at Austin State Hospital.

S’more is a 7 year old Cocker Spaniel who was rescued by Central Texas Dachshund Rescue 3 years ago. S’more now enjoys a golden life with his new people. S’more spends his spare time sleeping, eating, playing with his toys & spending weekends on his people's sailboat.

Lucchese was found on a county road chasing a van (the one that dumped her?), she was in decent condition so it appeared that she had not been abandoned for long. She now has training in search and rescue (wilderness air-scent), she is a member of a homeland defense / SAR unit, she has flown in an airplane, ridden on subway trains, escalators and kayaks. She adores people and loves doing therapy dog work. Her name - Lucchese - is a brand of cowboy boot that is known for its high quality and level of craftmanship. It was chosen because she has white 'boots' on her front legs, and she is a top quality canine.

Lucy is a 7-8 year old rescued Boykin Spaniel. When not jumping an agility course or attempting to hunt down guinnea fowl, she loves to see her friends at the Elgin Golden Years Nursing Home.

Mickey is an almost 2-year old Boston Terrier. He just finished training to volunteer with Divine Canines and he is looking forward to his first visit. He loves popcorn and long walks on the beach.

Hamachi is an affectionate, happy-go-lucky Australian Shepherd who lives to be petted, play Frisbee, and plunge in the lake on a hot day. At first when you meet her you might not notice, but she is deaf and learned all of her tricks by sign language and hand signals -- she's very smart, too!

Lakota is a 2 year old German Shepherd. Her mother was rescued by the Austin German Shepherd Rescue while she was pregnant with 5 pups. Lakota went home to her forever home at 8 weeks old. Her name is Native American for Peaceful. Lakota is also a Pet Pard'ner graduate. She loves chasing rabbits, squirrels and trying to catch water coming out of the water hose.

Bella was rescued from a far off cage at Town Lake Animal Shelter as a 10 week old puppy. Bella shares her contagious smile, perpetually wagging tail and tons of parlor tricks with people of all ages. The overwhelming crowd favorite: Ask Bella, "Would you rather be an Aggie or be dead?" Bella then falls to the floor! She began agility competitions in March 2007 because her handler wanted to try it out "just for fun." The adventure turned into a giant pile of ribbons and several agility titles.

Chula is an 8 year old chihuahua that loves to dance. She also enjoys sitting on laps and being petted. Soon Chula will master other tricks to perform on her visits!!

Rose is a 9 year old Tibetan Mastiff rescued from Town Lake Animal Shelter as a little fluff ball covered in burs in 1998. Rose spends her spare time chasing squirrels, barking at birds, chasing her siblings, or taking a much deserved nap on a tile floor. Her passion lies with her therapy work. She loves having children walk her, being hugged as a teddy bear, and has happily allowed children to do some imaginative hair dos with her fur.

Madison was quickly able to convince her future parents to take her home from the Atlanta Humane Society. A short romp outside of her cage, a very cute slide across the floor followed by a ferocious shoe lace attack were all it took to reinforce the “adopt me” look in her eyes. Madison is Georgia born so that makes her a southern girl! She has two adorable sisters, Shelby and Bailey, both pound puppies themselves who were all transplanted to Texas in 2000. Madison’s favorite activity is being social with people.

Ruby is one of many dogs who survived Hurricane Katrina and was brought from New Orleans to Austin to find her new forever home. Ruby is known for her sweet but shy disposition, and her trademark ears make her hard to miss. When she's not out making the rounds with her Divine Canine friends you can usually find her sunbathing in the Texas heat or hanging out with her buddy Fergus.
