Handler: Debra Packard

Sophie was adopted from TLAC when she was three months old. At the age of nine months she was returned to TLAC along with a bad report about her behavior. Because of the bad report, she was scheduled to be euthanized. I saw her and wanted to get her out of TLAC, but in those days TLAC didn't release to the general public dogs scheduled for euthanasia because of bad behavior. So, I contacted the director of the rescue group I was fostering for who was able to get Sophie out of TLAC for me. On December 24, 2002, I went and picked her up during an adoption day at Petco. December 24 also happened to be the first night I would be sleeping in the house I had just purchased as a first-time home buyer. At the time, I had two other dogs and two cats and the six of us went to sleep in a house-full of boxes and woke up on Christmas day in the new house with a new family member. As it turned out, Sophie (who I renamed from Bullet--never was a dog so ill named) was a perfect dog, with no behavior problems at all, and has been a sweet and gentle companion ever since.
