Owner/Handler: Jennifer and Sid Millspaugh

On the third of July in 2010, the countryside that surrounds the northwestern city of Spokane, Washington was filled with crisp, clean, fresh air, and a hint of pine and wild flowers. This is the setting we navigated as we approached the small farm. We heard the crunch of our tires rolling along the quarter mile of gravel road leading to the closed gate, which sat just a few hundred feet from a red barn. To greet us was a pack of golden retrievers, poodles, and golden-doodles, all of various colors and ages. Off to the side in a rather large paddock sat one small, curly-haired lady pup, sitting up straight and regal, front legs poised in front of her as though she were so proud of her appearance. She curiously looked over at us as we intruded onto her domain.

When the farm owner, Sharon, opened the paddock gate, the ball of snow-white fur with faint rose-rust red points on her ears, paws and on the ridge of her back bound out into the pack of doting aunts, cousins, rescues, play partners and pack members. After politely paying her respects to her elders she came over to greet us, to make sure we were of like minds. With the help of all the dogs, we toured the farm and found it to be remarkably clean, organized, and full of love.

As we talked with Sharon about her passion, all the dogs were running and playing, showing off for their visitors. After their spontaneous party, they soon fell to rest in their various chosen spots in the grass and driveway. It was then that the pup who would adopt us left her pack and trotted over to us, curled up under our feet, and looked up as if to say "You are my family now, can we go already? It's getting late."

From day one, our pup has had a different mind and temperament. Her big personality has been noted by many a stranger or passerby. She has not stopped finding new ways to entertain herself and us. She is high in spirit, keen on pleasing others, calm when at work, and geared to join in with activities.

We considered many names for her, but resisted picking one until we were all well acquainted. After some morning play, "Kelsie Rose" the name sang it's own melody out of our mouths as Kelsie Rose, our pup jumped into our arms and hearts forever.

Her training as a Therapy Dog started the 1st day we met, and was achieved by our determination and the wonderful assistance of the folks at the Canine Center for Training and Behavior. After almost a year and a half, Kelsie Rose graduated from therapy dog training on November 19, 2011.

In her spare time Kelsie Rose enjoys running free with her 4 horses on her Wildlife Refuge out in the Texas Hill Country. She is also learning an ever-increasing amount of parlor tricks, and looks forward to taking agility lessons. She loves finding great sticks, playing in the water, hiking, chasing balls, hide & seek, and running and jumping over bushes. Most of all she loves spending time with her parents Sid & Jen, going on their many adventures as a family, including bringing a smile to all those they meet along the way.

As a therapy dog, Kelsie Rose will be keeping office hours at various Divine Canine partner locations throughout Austin.
