About Us

divine canines provides animal assisted therapy (AAT) to people of all ages. Our volunteer teams visit children and adults facing various challenges, including mental illness, developmental differences, physical limitations and dementia. Therapeutic interaction with our specially trained canines results in emotional and physical benefits such as improved mood, confidence, communication, relaxation, and trust. Visits to partner facilities are conducted by multiple volunteer teams and last at least one hour.

Founded in 2004, the organization's success is based on two simple premises - one philosophical, the other pragmatic. First, there exists a deep, mysterious bond of healing between humans and their dogs. Second, dog enthusiasts comprise a responsible, dedicated and highly driven volunteer demographic. Our volunteer teams of busy individuals care about their community. They appreciate and want to share the joy and unconditional love their dogs so freely give.

Our Approach

divine canines trains and tests each dog and it's handler to ensure both are confident in all situations. An AKC Canine Good Citizen title is a prerequisite for entering therapy dog training, which includes intense classroom instructions as well as on site experience with patients and medical equipment.

divine canines teams choose volunteer sites based on their interests. This promotes frequent, predictable contact, building strong bonds and fostering healing relationships.

Animals Heal Us

Our dogs deliver unconditional love, affection, gentle exercise and companionship. In doing so, they promote physical and emotional wellness.

There is no charge for training or visits. We are committed to providing AAT as a free service but we need your help.

Service to the Public

divine canines therapy encourages smiles and brightens lives. To accomplish this, we:

  • Recruit and train teams of dogs and their owners and
  • Organize and facilitate regular, frequent visits to residents of special care facilities.
